My Valentine's Monkey and Maisy

Best Bouquet Ever!!!

We are so prepared for testing!  Bring it on!
Also, pencil bouquets totes remind me of You've Got Mail.  I used to be obsessed with Meg Ryan in that movie.  Obsessed.  Especially with her hair.
Also, I love how you can see the wood grain of the pencils.  It's oddly beautiful.

Lack of words explained

My posts have yet to delve too deeply into the written word and this is mostly due to the fact that my laptop battery is on life-support and I hate the mall.  True story but I'll break it down for the confused:

1.  iPhone Blogger app is very limited in what it allows you to do.  It hates apostrophes, it refuses to put pictures in any particular order and it doesn't read minds.  Meaning I have to type on the iPhone which I detest.  I have fat fingers.  Ergo, lots of pictures in random order without any explanation.

2.  The battery to my MacBook pro dies in like 15 minutes and to replace it I'd have to make an appointment with the Apple store and go to mall where there are lots of crowds and aimless teenagers and weird hipsters.  I'm not a fan.  I'll wait until a Monday morning at 9am during summer vacation.

3.  There is no good place to park my MacBook in my living room (where I LIVE, duh) where it can be plugged in.  And I don't have an "office" because I fully believe that 0 homes in America actually need an office.  It's a conspiracy but I don't know for what purpose.  Insurance probably...increased square footage= increased deductible.

I wish I were a real blogger but I'm definitely not.  Not even close.  Oh well.....

Beef O'Brady's

I have been yearning for a local hangout.  Nothing fancy, just a place I can stop at after work that has a decent beer selection and a vegetarian option for times like these (no meat since NYE!).  There are some local Taquerias for a chilaquiles breakfast and a very popular Tex-Mex patio restaurant nearby but I wanted something for the evenings that isn't crazy crowded at all hours.  Thankfully, a pub chain opened up just down the street and so far, it hasn't disappointed.  The best part?

It has a mighty fine veggie bowl. Yum.

Still a long shot though :(

Super Bowl

I don't know anything about the game or the commercials. What I do know? Jamaican chili and Mexican cornbread. :). Yummers.

Update: Closet and an Interview!

I worked on the closet this weekend and I have to admit... it's hard.  No matter how well you plan the space and the organizing tools, there is always the chance that something won't fit or isn't quite quality or doesn't put together very well.  Basically, some re-organizing, some rearranging and some returning to the store is in order.  Boo.  Hope it works out ok... I really really want those shoe cubbies.

Also, I have more "stuff" than I remembered.

1.  I love grey walls.  2. I love bright white trim.  3. I LOVE matching hangers!!!!

Most of these are moved to the other side because they are lighter weight than my dresses...lots of dresses... and the rack on the right side isn't as sturdy.  I'm happy with the shelves and the clear PEVA helps the closet look less crowded but I fear they won't last for too many years.

As for the other part of my post today.... INTERVIEW!   I was called today to interview for an Academic Dean position at a local high school.  I'm super excited but also realistic.  The odds are low that I'll be hired.  However, this is a GREAT opportunity for me to practice interviewing because the few opportunities I've had to interview have been filled with sweaty armpits and a creeping red blush that works its way up my chest and onto my face.  To quote the first principal I ever interviewed with, "Are you ok?"

So...here's to finishing up my closet so that I can find/clean/iron/fit into my suit!

A fourth closet drawing

This one I'll add a little sparkle to. Methinks glitter nail polish will work.

2011 Collage

Closet Drawings

I was so pleased with the outcome of my ink drawings that I hung in my dinging room that I decided to do a series for my closet.  I will have a (hopefully) blank narrow wall at the back that would be perfect to hang some simple drawings on.  I want the mood of the closet to be clear and comfortable so I'm sticking with black ink on white paper (totes easy) and will frame in white with some grey matting (slightly darker than wall color).  This (plus the light fixture and a nice upholstered stool) will help give the closet the feel of an actual room.

These are the three I have finished right now (using pictures from the internet as inspiration) and I'm planning on three more.  I'm thinking jewelry, a scarf, a belt, maybe a hat... other clothing related items.

House Posts

I've been in my home (my home!) for about a year-and-a-half and I have not yet posted anything about my projects.  Mostly this is due to the fact that the blog became a hobby after I became fed up with the sight of paint and brushes and put my house-prettying-hobby on hold.  Seriously, fed up.  It took me six months after painting the kitchen to do touch ups... and I'm still not done.  :(

When I first saw the house (after having loved and lost a few in the hot $120,000-market that is military/medical school San Antonio), I thought it was out of my range.  However, I took a shot and begged some extra down-payment moolah from my parents and became the proud owener (ok, co-owner with Wells Fargo) of my 6-paneled-doored, no-popcorn-ceilinged, extra-large-living-roomed, non-foreclosured, large-eat-in-kitchened, double-vanitied-master-bathroom home.  It's so random the things you start to appreciate as you house hunt.  I mean, really, 6 paneled doors?  Who knew I cared that much?

There are some things I didn't care for so much though... The empty backyard with its sad and lonely concrete slab.  The linoleum baths/laundry.  The blah beige carpet.  The pink and blue boys and girls rooms.  The mismatched black/white appliances.  The scratched white-washed cabinetry (you can't touch that up).  The white countertops.  The exterior colors.  The brass knobs and fixtures.

While some of the fixes are large and being saved for the future (new flooring... exterior paint), there are some I've tackled already.  In the living room, I painted the trim and walls and ceiling and I installed new ceiling fans with ceiling medallions.  In the kitchen/dining, I painted the trim and walls and ceiling and cabinets and countertops (thats right...countertops...I can't afford granite).  I've also replaced knobs and light fixtures.

Next up?  Master-land!  The closet (grey and chandeliered and organized), the bathroom (white and serene and de-cluttered with a faux tin ceiling), and the bedroom (light grey and serene with purple/yellow accents and a wood-pallet wall).  le sigh

Later... Turning the office into a more-useable craft/sewing room.  De-pinking the guest room.  Re-finishing the dining table and chairs.  Painting the guest bath.  Finishing the brick patio.  Landscaping the front walk.

Posts with before/after pictures will be coming soon!

Panda Express

Last Friday my sister came over to drop off her Daphne for a weekend playdate with my Maisy.  Although I normally cook for her, I hate the HEB and have been ignoring it and she was not pleased with my offer of jarred tomato basil soup and grilled cheese.  The nerve :)  Ergo, she arrived with Panda Express in hand and I discovered the wonder that is fried noodles and fried vegetables and fried cheese and sodium-in-a-packet.

Fast forward to yesterday where I googled and discovered that Panda Express was near my school and it had "healthy" options.  I eschewed the healthy options for chow mein, fried spring rolls and cream cheese rangoons.  I also killed the environment by sitting in the drive-through.

I may be going to hell but this was heaven.  Both metaphorically... I'm a good Christian. :)
