Last Days of School

We had to verify grades on Friday which has created this educational vacuum for the last three days of school.  The kids are watching movies.  I am doing a rotation of various things: book, e-book, Calvin and Hobbes comic book, crossword puzzles, blogging, recipe-searching, magazine flipping, and reading online news.  Tomorrow, I'm seriously considering bringing my iPod and ear buds and watching my own movies all day.  There is no way I can actually pay attention to Freedom Writers seven times a day.  I hate Hilary Swank.

Antenna love.

I no longer have DirecTV. I have a wonky antenna from the 80's. I get the CW. I sometimes get Fox. I get either NBC or CBS but never both. PBS and ABC have completely disappeared. Espanol everywhere. I do have my Roku with access to Netflix and Hulu Plus. And I am Totally Loving It.

New TV!

First, lightning took my garage door opener and then lightning, allegedly, took my TV.  I can't prove it, but it's oddly coincidental.  The good news is that I've been salivating for an HDTV for years but I thought it wasteful since my tube TV was still functioning.  The bad news is, TVs are expensive.  That sad, I'm now the owner of an LED TV and a new HD Roku and a Nook Simple Touch...which really has nothing to do with this story except that my simplification project took 90% of my library.  The process has been frustrating...things working, things not working.  Need to upgrade my internets....cancelled my cable.... nearly killed myself trying to remove the big old heavy tube TV.  Ouch.   My nearly clean house after my tornado of simplifying is now filled again with trash and cardboard boxes and old electronics.  Vicious cycle.

Garage Sale

Yesterday's garage sale went pretty good.  I made about $200 and didn't have to work very hard thanks to the BF.  He knows I'm not a very good salesman.  I'd take $1 for pretty much anything just to get the transaction completed; however he managed to get $10 and even $20 for some of my goods.  And I didn't have anything large to sell either.

Next up in the simplification process is to finish putting aside special items to (hopefully) e-bay.  I'm going to look for a company that will do it for me because I don't care to add any hassle to my life.  That would be the opposite of simplifying.

Other than that, I'm cleaning and organizing and setting aside goodies/furniture for The Bay House (officially a Mathis residence as of Friday) and making my summer plans to re-do the master bathroom and bedroom.  Hint: think boutique hotel.

Also, yesterday was Maisy's 3rd birthday.  She chowed down on some special yummies.

Update on Minimizing

I'm still not quite sure what to call my home project... Minimizing?  Simplifying?  Ditching stuff?  So far, it's feeling good.  I've got a fairly large pile accrued in my guest room that consists mainly of books (just some of them!), winter coats (this is Texas), fancy dresses (ha! I'm a khaki skirt kind-of-gal) and business suits (they don't match my personality).  I'm making plans on what to do with everything: consignment shops, Goodwill, trash, gifted to family, etc.  I wish this was a TV show though; that everything would be gone as soon as I make the decision.  No time for regret.... no time to change my mind and sneak things back onto shelves.  I keep my eye on the end prize... less stuff equals more peace.  For Amy.  Thus the blog.

Oh...less stuff also equals more savings and some nicer items.  This is what I remember while driving by Marshall's and Old Navy without stopping.  Keep that in check and Amy's getting some new gold hoops from James Avery. :)

Upgraded to the new Facebook!

Totally last minute but I kind of like it!
